Am I wrong?
Have I run too far to get home?
Have I gone?

And left you here alone?
If I would, could you?

What I’m Listening To, Ra….

I love the band Ra, and if you haven’t checked them out, you really should.  Their songs tell a story, sometimes funny, sometimes sad.  This is “Do You Call My Name?”

Kill me with a beat

Some people seem to think they always know what’s best for you
Their little minds try to create a world to keep you still
The bolt is thrown, the cage is locked, you saw this, don’t you lie
At first you cry and then you hate those people stole your will

Do as you are told and maybe then we’ll let you out
You might be dead and cold, you might be full of doubt
Don’t try to escape ‘cuz you don’t have nowhere to go
If nothing is your fate, there’s no scenario (No nothing)

Do you call my name
Do you stain my brain
My eyes are blurry and I can’t see you anymore
Do you call my name
Do you breed my pain
My heart is bloody and I can’t take it anymore

So you just sit there, stuck, afraid to risk reality
Afraid to cause yourself more pain, to face insanity
But nothing ventured, nothing gained you see, your fear’s your cage
You beg for help but you’re alone, stuck in a helpless rage

Do as you are told and maybe then we’ll let you out
You might be dead and cold, you might be full of doubt
Don’t try to escape ‘cuz you don’t have nowhere to go
If nothing is your fate, there’s no scenario

It’s me I see, please let me out, I’m petrified

Do as you are told and maybe then we’ll let you out
You might be dead and cold, you might be full of doubt
Don’t try to escape ‘cuz you don’t have nowhere to go
If nothing is your fate, there’s no scenario (Come on)

Do you call my name
Do you stain my brain
My eyes are blurry and I can’t see you anymore

Do you call my name
Do you breed my pain
My heart is bloody and I can’t take it anymore

Do you call my name (Do you call my name)
Do you stain my brain (Do you stain my brain)
My eyes are blurry and I can’t see you anymore

Do you call my name (Do you call my name)
Do you breed my pain (Do you breed my pain)
My heart is bloody and I can’t take it anymore

Rock My World…

This is the music that moved me this weekend:

MetallicaFuel

Gimme fuel, gimme fire
Gimme that which I desire

Turn on, I see red
Adrenaline crash and crack my head
Nitro junkie, paint me dead
And I see red

One hundred plus through black and white
War horse, warhead
Fuck ’em, man, white-knuckle tight
Through black and white

On I burn
Fuel is pumping engines
Burning hard, loose and clean
And on I burn
Churning my direction
Quench my thirst with gasoline

So gimme fuel, gimme fire
Gimme that which I desire

Turn on beyond the bone
Swallow future, spit out home
Burn your face upon the chrome

Take the corner, join the crash,
Headlights, head on, headlines
Another junkie lives too fast
Lives way too fast

On I burn
Fuel is pumping engines
Burning hard, loose and clean
And on I burn
Churning my direction
Quench my thirst with gasoline

So gimme fuel, gimme fire
Gimme that which I desire

White-knuckle tight

Gimme fuel
Gimme fire
My desire

On I burn
Fuel is pumping engines
Burning hard, loose and clean
And on I burn
Churning my direction
Quench my thirst with gasoline

Gimme fuel, gimme fire
Gimme that which I desire

On I burn

ShinedownSin With a Grin

Take a good look at agony
Force fed pass down time release
I’m inspired to find the liar
Black list X on the back of a soulful man
I’ve got ways you understand
Look left, look right
But I’m behind you
I never noticed until I focused
On everything you did, you said
You lit the fuse inside my head

Thank you for reminding me of why I’m sick inside
Thanks you for the venom
Did you think it would paralyze
These scars
I scratch
I tear
Are there
Under my skin
Where you’ve always been
Thank you for reminding me to sin with a grin

Hangman standing on twisted 2 X 4
Built your house
But forgot to lock the door
I’m inside with two black eyes
I have not one shred of sympathy
I have no use for apologies

I’m inspired to find the liar
I never noticed until I focused
On everything you did, you said
You lit the fuse inside my head

CHORUS

(c) 2010, Shinedown

I’m outa luck, outa love

Gotta photograph, picture of

Passion killer, you’re too much

You’re the only one I wanna touch

I see your face every time I dream

On every page, every magazine

So wild and free, so far from me

You’re all I want, my fantasy

Oh, look what you’ve done to this rock ‘n’ roll clown

Oh oh, look what you’ve done

Photograph – I don’t want your

Photograph – I don’t need your

Photograph – All I’ve got is a photograph

But it’s not enough

I’d be your lover, if you were there

Put your hurt on me, if you dare

Such a woman, you got style

You make every man feel like a child, oh

You got some kinda hold on me

You’re all wrapped up in mystery

So wild and free, so far from me

You’re all I want, my fantasy

Oh, look what you’ve done to this rock ‘n’ roll clown

Oh oh, look what you’ve done

Photograph – I don’t want your

Photograph – I don’t need your

Photograph – All I’ve got is a photograph

You’ve gone straight to my head

Oh, look what you’ve done to this rock ‘n’ roll clown

Oh Oh, look what you’ve done

I gotta have you

Photograph – I don’t want your

Photograph – I don’t need your

Photograph – All I’ve got is a photograph

I wanna touch you

Photograph

Photograph – Your photograph

Photograph –

Photograph – I need only your

Photograph – I’m outa love

Photograph – I’m outa love

Photograph – You’re the only one

Photograph – I wanna touch

Mind strong, Body strong
Try to find equilibrium
Head straight, Screwed on
Been screwed up for too longI don’t want to lean on the waves
I watch the storm evaporate
I think of you in starry skies
I keep you so alive

Lets walk through the fire together
Disappear in the golden sands

It’s all in your face
I see you break
It’s like the sound of winter
The bleeding love, the silent escape
You’ve got to hang on to yourself
It’s like the sound of winter

Medusa smiles, Judas lips
Open arms and finger tips
Love bites and Recompense
I’ll be with you until the end

Lets walk through the fire together
Disappear in the golden sands

It’s all in your face
I see you break
It’s like the sound of winter
The bleeding love, the silent escape
You’ve got to hang on to yourself

It’s all in your face
I see you break
It’s like the sound of winter
The bleeding love, the silent escape
You’ve got to hang on to yourself
It’s like the sound of winter

Hang on to yourself
Hang on to yourself

It’s like the sound of winter

It’s all in your face
I see you break
It’s like the sound of winter
The bleeding love, the silent escape
You’ve got to hang on to yourself
It’s like the sound of winter

It’s like the sound of winter

Hang on to yourself
Hang on to yourself

Lyrics available HERE

I had visions, I was in them

I was looking into the mirror

To see a little bit clearer

Rottenness and evil in me

Fingertips have memories

Mine can’t forget the curves of your body

And when I feel a bit naughty

I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes

(But no one ever does)

I’m not sick but I’m not well

And I’m so hot cause I’m in hell

Been around the world and found

That only stupid people are breeding

The cretins cloning and feeding

And I don’t even own a tv

Put me in the hospital for nerves

And then they had to commit me

You told them all I was crazy

They cut off my legs now I’m an amputee, god damn you

I’m not sick but I’m not well

And I’m so hot cause I’m in hell

I’m not sick but I’m not well

And it’s a sin to live so well

I want to publish zines

And rage against machines

I want to pierce my tongue

It doesn’t hurt, it feels fine

The trivial sublime

I’d like to turn off time

And kill my mind

You kill my mind

Paranoia, paranoia

Everybody’s coming to get me

Just say you never met me

I’m going underground with the moles digging holes

Hear the voices in my head

I swear to god it sounds like they’re snoring

But if you’re bored then you’re boring

The agony and the irony, they’re killing me

I’m not sick but I’m not well

And I’m so hot cause I’m in hell

I’m not sick but I’m not well

And it’s a sin to live so well

Quote of the Week, 1 March 2012

Apropos for the last few weeks of my life, I bring you the lyrics of the new Staind song, Not Again:

Do you feel like you’re falling?
You’ve taken this step
In front of you, is further from the truth
You fall apart in front of me again

Again
Denial isn’t the way to forgiveness
You always swore that I was wrong
Not again
No taste for the crow you feed me
Not again
It’s not a matter of if I care
Not again
What an intricate web you’re weaving
I did it again

So you tried not to follow
While the clock fails to sleep
So here we are back where it began
And toe to toe I stand in front of you again

Again
Denial isn’t the way to forgiveness
You always swore that I was wrong
Not again
No taste for the crow you feed me
Not again
It’s not a matter of if I care
Not again
What an intricate web you’re weaving
I did it again

Not again
No taste for the crow you feed me
Not again
It’s not a matter of if I care
Not again
What an intricate web you’re weaving
I did it again

Again
Again

Real Tragedy

I don’t deny that Amy Winehouse was a great talent, nor do I dispute that her early death was tragic.  It’s always hard to watch someone who can’t seem to get a handle on the demons that plague them descend further and further into the abyss.  The fact of the matter is, however, that she only had herself to blame.  After several stints in rehab, she should have had the tools to help herself get away from the destructive behaviors.  Obviously, she didn’t have the desire.

I’m not cold and heartless, whatever you may think.  I’ve been there and still struggle with addictions I can’t overcome.  I know how hard it is, and I know you have to WANT it.  Amy didn’t want it.  From an interview with Moby, as reported in The Hollywood Reporter (click here for full interview):

“With the Forever 27 club in mind, one has to wonder whether the music business is partly to blame. Says Moby: “No one had to force me to drink and take drugs and no one else could have led me to get and stay sober.  It’s sometimes too easy to point fingers when circumstances dramatically go awry, but as an addict, I’m ultimately responsible for my own decisions, no matter how benign or tragic the consequences.”

There are MANY events in world news, not to mention history, that can be called real tragedies.  Every child that dies at the hands of neglectful caregivers, the recent explosion and shootings in Oslo, Norway, the genocide still taking place against minorities in Africa, the earthquakes in Japan, the statistics that show homelessness and hunger in one of the richest countries in the world…..just to name a few.  I don’t want to make light of the mourning of millions of fans who will miss Amy, nor of the family that loved her.  We shouldn’t lose sight of the real tragedies in our world, either.

My Valhalla….SXSW

South by Southwest, or as it’s affectionately known among fans, South by, has come and gone for another year and I missed it.  I LOVE South by with a passion bordering on absurd.  The crowds, the venues, the late nights, the bands…..all of it spells major FUN for me.  I usually make the trek to Austin for a long weekend, starting on Thursday and ending Sunday afternoon with gospel brunch at Stubb’s.  A lot of my friends try to come, too, and we revel along with the college kids, the 50-something “yuppies” and the urban hip.  I can’t explain it fully, it’s an experience you have to feel for yourself.

Here’s an interesting article I found, I hope it sheds some light for you.  I missed going SO much this year, but financial woes kept me home.  I’m already planning for next year, though, so WATCH OUT, Austin!

30STM Rocks HOB Dallas!

The son, daughter, a friend of mine, and I went to see 30 Seconds to Mars at the House of Blues in Dallas on the 23rd.  See…..I told you I was WAY late getting my blog posts up!  I meant to post this yesterday, but didn’t have access to the pics we (or rather, my daughter!) took.  The concert was really great.  Jared Leto has a lot of energy and is very engaging with the fans, inviting several of them up on stage with him.  It was a rollicking good time and Jared sounded fantastic.

The daughter and I in front of the big mirror in the bathroom before the concert.  We were really early and had to wait almost an hour for the doors to open!

Crew setting up the stage:

Yay!

Jared in the process of inviting half the audience up on stage with him.  He ended up with quite a crowd up there!

Exhorting us to “JUMP, JUMP, JUMP!”

We had a GREAT time, thanks, 30STM!
