Obsession

I have recently discovered a love for Filofax binders, and planners in general.  Printing my own inserts for them, decorating, writing in many colors, stickers, and more.  It’s really FUN, but wow……I’ve come to realize that I move from one obsession to the next….seeking something….but never finding it.  Or, finding it briefly and then moving on again.

Previous loves include photography, shoes, making candles and soaps, handbags and……shoes.  I don’t love the past obsessions any less, but once I’ve moved on, I don’t usually return.  Except for the shoes, of course, ’cause c’mon…..SHOES.  I’m also a long-time lover of pens and paper….the nicer, the better.  Smooth Levenger and Rhodia paper are my favorites, and I’m currently in love with my Lamy fountain pen.  Especially since I just put a purple cartridge in it!

What is it that I’m looking for, though?  I can’t help wondering what kind of fulfillment I’m missing that I have to fill it with a string of, “currently obsessing over…” items.  It seems some deep soul-searching might be in my near future.

Meanwhile…..I’ll be at my desk….doodling in my planners.  🙂

Don’t Feed the Trolls!

You know what?  I’m VERY newly in the blogging game, but haters lurk everywhere, out here in the “real” world, on social networks, on blogs, at Walmart, everywhere.  I’m printing this excellent reminder and taping it up on my wall where I can see it every day.  Carry on!  (MUCH thanks to Karen Gunter of build a little biz, who got it from Inspiring Mums.  There’s also a version with blank bubbles so you can fill in your own words!)

I also read Chris McCombs’ blog post and wow….what a timely message for me, especially after this week.  “How to Get More Haters” put a new spin on the scourge of the interwebs and gave me a little perspective in my non-cyber life, too.

Have a GREAT, AWESOME, LOVELY weekend, y’all!  (And how do you like my new “signature” graphic?)

9/11, Ten Years Later

Everyone is aware that this weekend marks the tenth anniversary of the heinous act of terrorism on American soil, the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and almost the White House.  I’m not going to say anything that hasn’t been oft-repeated by just about everyone, from pundits, to journalists, to opinion and editorial columnists, to survivors.  I just want to make a plea that Americans everywhere come together in prayer, thanks, and forgiveness this weekend….and spare a thought for what the events of 9/11/01 have made of our nation and ourselves.

Pray for the survivors….not only those who survived the attacks themselves, but for those who were left behind when they lost loved ones.

Pray for our servicemen and women around the world.  They sacrifice so much to give us the life and liberty we enjoy.  They are truly heroes.

Pray for the first responders.  The fire fighters, EMS workers, hospital workers and police officers.  Like our service people, they put themselves in harm’s way to protect us, and are often not given the thanks they deserve.

Pray for the terrorists.  The environment and religious ideology that produces hatred for the West is something that only God can fix.  God hears our prayers, and He will answer them.

Forgive our enemies.  We stoop to their level when we profess hate for them, as they do for us.  All we can do is show them the way, and hope they come to a realization.  Hate solves nothing.

9/11 was a wake up call.  I hope we all heard, and continue to hear, the alarm bells ringing.

Sin with a Grin

Copyrighted by Shinedown:

Take a good look at agony
Force fed pass down time release
I’m inspired to find the liar

Black list X on the back of a soulful man
I’ve got ways you understand
Look left, look right but I’m behind

I never noticed until I focused
On everything you did, you said
You lit the fuse inside my head

Thank you for reminding me of why I’m sick inside
Thank you for the venom, did you think it would paralyze?
These scars I scratch, I tear are there under my skin
Where you’ve always been
Thank you for reminding me to sin with a grin

Hangman standing on a twisted 2 by 4
Built your house but forgot to lock the door
I’m inside with two black eyes

I have not one shred of sympathy
I have no use for apologies
I’m inspired to find the lie

I never noticed until I focused
On everything you did, you said
You lit the fuse inside my head

Thank you for reminding me of why I’m sick inside
Thank you for the venom, did you think it would paralyze?
These scars I scratch, I tear are there under my skin
Where you’ve always been
Thank you for reminding me to sin with a grin

Thank you for reminding me of why I’m sick inside
Thank you for the venom, did you think it would paralyze?
These scars I scratch, I tear are there under my skin
Where you’ve always been

Thank you for reminding me of why I’m sick inside
Thank you for the venom, did you think it would paralyze?
These scars I scratch, I tear are there under my skin
Where you’ve always been
Thank you for reminding me to sin with a grin
Sin with a grin, sin with a grin, sin with a grin

You know….I really like the person I am.  I give thanks for every little thing that has shaped who I am, both the good and the bad.  Much thanks to Shinedown for this song!
